In preparation for Valentine's Day this year I spent a couple of evenings stitching red hearts onto a pile of vintage Canadian postcards. They will arrive in Tokyo and Kagoshima today with packages of chocolates. In Japan, the Valentine tradition is for girls to give boys chocolate. After a few visits to Japan, with my boyfriend over the last few years, I inevitably got involved in this tradition with a lot of his business associates, who, to my good fortune, have become friends as well.
I think they'll get a kick out of Sergeant Henry Larsen!
Whether you embrace all the chocolate and togetherness on Valentine's Day, or are mildly annoyed by the superficiality of it all, we hope the undercurrent of sweet sentimentality touches your heart in some positive way today.
Happy Valentine's Day!
