Leanne Christie: A Studio Visit

On Monday I had the great pleasure of having a studio visit with the Vancouver oil painter,Leanne Christie. We first met on Granville Island several years ago when I purchased a small painting from her. Leanne came to Vancouver from South Africa a few years ago to further her painting career. She has the most uncanny talent for seeing our filtered Vancouver light and transferring the subtle colours onto canvas. I remember her describing how the South African light tones are all reds and yellow. I feel like she sees our landscape, perhaps clearer than we can, because she has brought new eyes. I am never more aware that we have so many spectacular tones of grey than when I look at her paintings. She is currently creating a body of work, which consists of historical and contemporary scenes of Vancouver, for the Barrister's Lounge Collection. In May you will be able to find her at the Granville Island Market--the dates are posted on her website, here. Thanks for having me in your studio, Leanne. It was a great way to end my day. -Rose
